Bangkok – January 10, 2018: Sports is a key factor to support children’s development and help them to grow in every aspect. For kids in the key learning stage of 7 to 12 years of age, in addition to building physical strength, sports also helps to them develop mentally and socially by teaching them about sportsmanship, which is vital to learn during childhood to grow for success. This is why MILO beverage is collaborating with the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, to launch the “Sports Development Program in School” project with a commitment to support Thai kids to grow with sport by sending a caravan to visit 1,600 schools to promote sports as part of a healthy and active lifestyle, reaching out to 1.5 million Thai kids nationwide.

Mr. Chaiyong Sakulborrirug, Business Executive Officer – Dairy & Adult Nutrition for Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., said, “MILO beverage encourages Thai kids to play sports as it will help them to grow with sport, because MILO believes that Sport is a Great Teacher. We have seen positive results from MILO’s ongoing activities to support sports over the past several years. We are starting out 2018 by kicking off the Sports Development Program in School project, which reflects a belief shared by MILO beverage and the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, that sports teaches kids life skills and values that will help them to be a success in life and throughout their careers. The project will encourage 1.5 million Thai kids nationwide to exercise for a total of 45 million minutes per year by demonstrating to the kids and their parents the benefits of playing sports. We will encourage kids to play sports more often, as well as provide them with nutritious energy with MILO beverage, which offers nutritional benefits and has a delicious taste. The project also reflects Nestlé’s Purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future.”

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, gives priority to kids’ future success and has the opinion that it is the responsibility of the adults who support them, starting with their family, along with the support of the public and private sectors. OBEC has an agenda to help kids explore themselves, especially developing their sports abilities, as this may lead to a future career and is in line with the current government policy that encourages students to become professional athletes. OBEC supports the Sports Development Program in School project as it recognizes the program’s potential and will be a channel to provide information about the project to schools under OBEC, and has also helped to select remote and impoverished schools that will enhance their sports programs through this project. OBEC gives its compliments to MILO beverage as a private sector partner that is aware of the importance of always inspiring Thai kids to grow with sport.

The Sports Development Program in School roadshow runs from January 15 until September 28, 2018. The school program begins with a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise to stay active and benefit the body. It includes: 1) Aerobic Healthy Thai Kids Fit & Firm, a body warm-up activity to get ready before playing sports using music that teaches the kids about nutrition, so they can exercise and learn at the same time. 2) Thai boxing uses this martial art as a form of exercise for kids to learn about self-defense and help their entire body to get healthy. 3) A Football Clinic for kids interested in playing football teaches them basic skills, and they can also develop in many aspects of football under the direction of former national football team coaches. After enjoying their exercise, it’s time to provide the kids with nutritious energy by offering MILO beverage, with many nutritional benefits and a delicious taste.

“We expect our collaboration with Office of the Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education, on the Sports Development Program in School project will become a significant driver for Thai kids to be healthy and have active lifestyles, so they can grow with sport, because Sport is a Great Teacher,” concluded Mr. Chaiyong.
