Nestlé is Committed to Investing in Nescafé Production in Thailand

Nescafé, Thailand’s number one coffee brand from Nestlé, has been committed to creating positive impacts to benefit the economy, society, and the environment in Thailand. This commitment includes purchasing raw coffee beans from Thai coffee farmers for over 40 years. Most recently, at the beginning of 2025, Nestlé already purchased Robusta coffee beans from Thai farmers as it has always done every year.

Between 1990 and 2024, Nestlé had a contract with Quality Coffee Products Co., Ltd. (QCP) to produce Nescafé products in Thailand. The coffee recipes and production technology were proprietary intellectual property of Nestlé. The production and management teams were entirely composed of Nestlé personnel.

Following the end of the Nestlé’s contract with QCP on 31 December 2024, arrangements have been made to ensure that Thai consumers can continue to enjoy the full range of Nescafé products with the same great taste and high quality by outsourcing Nescafé production to companies in Thailand to help produce Nescafé products, while also temporarily importing some products from ASEAN countries due to insufficient domestic production capacity. Nestlé reaffirms its commitment to invest in Nescafé production in Thailand. Nestlé is now preparing to resume Nescafé production in Thailand after receiving the affirmation from the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court. While we are preparing a local production, we remain committed to supporting Thai farmers by purchasing as many raw materials as possible from local farmers.

Previously, the ICC International Court of Arbitration confirmed that Nestlé had properly respected the QCP Joint Venture Agreement and as a result, the contract termination on 31 December 2024 was valid and legally binding. However, shareholders of QCP led by Mr. Chalermchai Mahagitsiri and his family instead filed for a temporary injunction from the Minburi Civil Court. Subsequently, the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court in Black Case TorPhor 58/2568 has issued an order affirming that Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. has the exclusive right to use the “Nescafé” trademark in Thailand, allowing Nestlé to resume the full operation of Nescafé products for Thailand market from 11 April 2025.

Nestlé will continue to do everything we can to ensure that small operators, our suppliers, consumers and the farmers we work with will not be affected by the actions of the mentioned shareholders.

Nestlé maintains a firm commitment to Thailand. Between 2018 and 2024, Nestlé invested over 22.8 billion baht in Thailand. Nestlé will continue to invest for the benefits of our customers, consumers, our employees, the farmers we work with and our business partners.
