Bangkok – August 17, 2020: MILO chocolate malt beverage is reinforcing its commitment to encouraging Thai kids to “Grow with Sport” because “Sport is A Great Teacher.” In collaboration with the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) and the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), MILO is kicking off the “MILO Futsal 2020 - The Power of Skills for a Stronger Team” tournament, the 11th year it is taking place. For the first time ever in Thailand, the futsal tournament has been redefined as a competition for Thai kids from 7 to 12 years old nationwide to compete in five tests of the individual futsal skills that help to build stronger teamwork. The five skills are dribbling, passing, controlling, heading, and shooting, and all teams have a chance to win a trophy bestowed by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn plus academic scholarships worth a total of 660,000 baht.
Mr. Chaiyong Sakulborrirug, Business Executive Officer – Dairy & Adult Nutrition, Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., said, “Although the situation this year presents challenges and limitations for holding the futsal tournament in the usual format, we strongly believe in MILO’s commitment that children can learn and ‘Grow with Sport Because Sport is A Great Teacher.’ For this year, we redefined the MILO Futsal 2020 tournament as a skills competition in which the kids can fully demonstrate their potential no matter what the situation may be. The tournament is a collaboration between MILO and our key partners the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) and the Sports Authority of Thailand. We all worked together to determine the most appropriate way to arrange the tournament for the kids this year.”

“The highlight of the ‘MILO Futsal 2020 - The Power of Skills for a Stronger Team’ competition is how we redefined the regular futsal tournament format into an innovative new model that highlights basic skills while reflecting the current need for physical distancing. The five skills competition stations include dribbling, passing, controlling, heading, and shooting, as these are the basics necessary for all levels of futsal players, from junior players to world-class superstars.”
In line with the government’s policies, the MILO Futsal organizing committee made safety and prevention protocols their first priority. Safety measures include registration using the Thaichana Platform, one-way-entry screening points, body temperature checkpoints, a hygiene standards checklist, and limiting the number of participants such as staff, coaches, players, and observers at the event.
“We believe that, even though the format has changed, the kids participating in the competition will have an experience that encourages them to practice the most important basic futsal skills. At the same time, the competition will help to build sportsmanship and teamwork while showing the players how to lose, win and forgive, under the concept ‘Sport is A Great Teacher’ to encourage kids to become good citizens in the future,” added Mr. Chaiyong.
