Robusta Coffee and Development Programme at Sawi - Chumporm

Improving coffee crops : the world’s first large Robusta coffee nursery in Thailand.

For more than 25 years, Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. has been playing a very active role in developing the coffee industry in Thailand. Nestlé is not only Thailand’s largest coffee manufacturer but also the biggest direct purchaser of coffee beans from Thai farmers.
The world’s first large commercial Robusta coffee nursery was set up at Chachoengsao factory in Thailand in 2004. Since 2006, the nursery has yielded production of 600,000 Elite Robusta coffee seedlings for distribution to Thai farmers.

Nestlé Thailand has initiate the Coffee Development Project with the collaboration of the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives together with Nestlé Research Center (Tours, France) to find the best coffee varieties for the climate and condition in Thailand.

The Robusta Coffee Mass Propagation Project is aimed to promote sustainable farming methods so that Thai coffee farmers can enjoy a better quality of life in the long run. This collaboration program is an example of true investment Nestlé makes in research and improving coffee crops.
